First layup on the Nose of the Body

Spent a bit of time today doing some fine sanding and then doing the layup on the nose.  It was fun to get some time to work on the Trike.

  1. Can you give some more info on the bodywork process please? Is it fibre glass Matt over foam coated in epoxy? How do you get the smooth finish - is it just loads of filler? Thank you - following your build closely!!

  2. Hello JC. I am using what is called a mold-less composite technique pioneered by Burt Rutan. I started by doing practice kit you can purchase at:

So you shape the foam then you put micro ballons /epoxy to fill in any holes or gaps then you put your first layer of fiberglass over the shape. you end up with a very smooth shape afterwards. Then you should micro over the top to complete the shape then you can paint. I will show that as I get closer to finishing the body. I typically use the glass cloth. Not much filler is needed if you sand the shape smooth before coating it with the fiberglass. BC
